The Ignition Lab is a group songwriting challenge to write a song a week  in 2013, using weekly word prompts as a starting point. Follow our work on Facebook:

Catching up again. Week #38’s word prompt was BUY. After celebrating a wedding anniversary, I felt inspired to write this song. This was posted on October 10th, and since then has been recorded and will be in my next album. Check it out, it’s super corny and mushy, and has a 1920’s feel. Lyrics after the video.

The Only Thing

You can buy me diamond rings
You can gift all sorts of things
But it won’t compare to all the things you bring
You bring love and warmth at night
You make everything just right
This here love is the only thing I’ll need

Celebrating life with you
Grateful for the things you do
Falling in your loving arms
Greeted by your graceful charm
I can’t imagine my days without your magic
And I’m the one you chose to woo

My heart swells with warm delight
Traveling far at greatest heights
I can do anything with you by my side
It’s a joy I just can’t hide
I’ll never take for granted this love I’ve just been handed
Every day is a gift in my eyes
